New Superman Movie News

Being a writer, it was only natural to merge my love of movies with my work and write movie reviews. That actually began my freelance career many years ago. And I have watched thousands of movies. I am known to view favorites dozens of times or more. I can't even count how many times I've seen Princess Bride, or Cary Grant and Irene Dunne's My Favorite Wife...but I digress...

My personal movie tastes are varied, and my satisfaction is not necessarily dependent on typical "good movie" standards. I'm forgiving of what some may call flaws, errors, substandards, story holes, weak plots, campy acting or predictability. My main criteria is basic: does the movie engross me, hold my attention, stay with me and most importantly, entertain me? If I answer yes, then it's a good movie. It's simple.

Now to my main point. Dean Cain's performance in the recent Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness, engrossed me. I was absorbed. There is something about the sadness he so richly portrayed that is staying with me. I didn't want to take my eyes off of the scenes that he appeared in. For two hours, I sat entertained.

I think Mr. Cain was terrific, and a great fit for this role. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part. Was the movie itself good? I enjoyed it. Was it well directed? I stayed involved and forgot I was watching TV for a couple hours. How about the plot? It moved along and held my interest. I cared about the characters, good and bad. Any negatives? After it ended, I knew I would want to see it again, and hope to get it on DVD when it becomes available. Was it perfect? Perfection is boring. Movies are art, and craft, and fantasy. They shouldn't ever be perfect...they should just be enjoyed!

So, what's my opinion? It's simple. I had fun...it was good.
