If you've been reading comic books for any length of time (at least 3-5 years), then I'm quite sure that you've learned that for every super hero there is a super villain; a nemesis that haunts the hero all of the time. These same super villains return, year after year, storyline after storyline, and it can even seem that they will never go away and it makes me wonder if the fountains of creativity have run dry for the creators who work on the character of the super hero. Should the hero have other villains that test and try him or her? Should they be limited to just one or two recurring villains that always tell the same story and sing the same song? Marvel Comics seems to think that it's time to end this boring cycle with their new, February 2008 debuting mutant search-and-destroy team, X-Force. The solicitation for the first issue reads: "There are lines that the X-Men have sworn never to cross. But after the shocking events of "Messiah Complex," Cyclops realizes that some enemies need to be dealt with permanently... and the X-Men can never know about it. Enter WOLVERINE, WARPATH, X-23 and WOLFSBANE...X-FORCE." At first, I was a little shocked and taken back by the solicitation, but then it began to sink in that there are some villains that need to be put down...for good. What kind of message will this send to the rest of the Marvel Universe? Keep in mind that this team is assembled after the Messiah Complex storyline has run its course, and it's only just begun, so we don't know the circumstances that lead to Cyclops making what seems to be such a drastic decision, but I say that it's time for a team like X-Force to exist. The question now is: Who's the first target?
